December 9, 2008
The colony initiated Jurell G. Sison '10 and welcomed him to the brotherhood in a ceremony on December 9. Brother Sison was unable to travel to Oxford, OH a few weeks ago for Initiation at the Administrative Office. Welcome and congratulations, Jurell!
Schoonmaker named Greek Week 2009 Co-Chair

Senior Ryan Schoonmaker, former vice president of the JCU Colony, was announced as one of the co-chairs for Greek Week 2009, representing the Interfraternity Council. He will partner with Kate Glass of Gamma Phi Beta, who is representing the Panhellenic Council. The two will lead a committee tasked with planning the activities, awards, and rules for the University's annual Greek Week celebration, to be held this year from April 19-25.
Vogel named to IFC Executive Board

Sophomore Andrew Vogel, the colony's scholarship chair, was named to the IFC Executive Board for the 2009 term. He will fulfill the role of Vice President for Administration & Finance, a position that is currently filled by fellow Beta brother Peter Poznako '09.
Beta sweeps Greek Life Academic Awards

During the Fall 2008 Scholarship Banquet hosted by Order of Omega, Beta Theta Pi swept every chapter award for which it was eligible. The colony won the following awards for its members' academic performance during the spring 2008 semester: Most Improved Fraternity GPA, Highest Fraternity New Member GPA, Highest Fraternity GPA, and Highest Overall GPA. Five individuals were also honored for their scholarship during the spring semester.
Kuczynski Inducted into Order of Omega

J.J. Kuczynski '10 was one of twelve Greek men and women to be inducted as part of the fall 2008 class into the Upsilon Rho Chapter of Order of Omega, the national Greek leadership honorary society. Kuczynski was selected for membership based on his character, scholarship, leadership, and service to the Greek and campus community. He joins five other Betas already inducted. Congratulations, J.J.!
Beta Theta Pi Elects New Officers

Marking an historic occasion for the young JCU colony of Beta Theta Pi, the first transition of officers is imminent following the election of a new slate of officers for the 2009 term. President-elect J.J. Kuczynski '10 and Vice President-elect Andrew Kolupski '10 will lead the nine-person executive board beginning on December 1.
JCU Colony Initiates Beta Class

Seven of John Carroll's finest men became officially initiated brothers of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity on November 15 in a ceremony within the Hall of Chapters, located on the grounds of Brennan Hall, the site of the Beta Theta Pi Foundation and Administrative Office in Oxford, Ohio. Following the ceremony, the group of 25 who made the journey from JCU strolled through downtown Oxford; stopped by the Alpha Chapter at Miami University; paid homage to the founders, of ever honored memory, in Harrison Hall (the site of Beta's founding); and witnessed the bells toll in the Beta Campanile.
JCU Colony Inducts Beta Class

Concluding a successful fall recruitment season led by recruitment chair Kyle Sobh '10, Beta Theta Pi inducted its Beta Class of 10 new members on September 29th. These men will now undergo an extensive eight week new member education program led by Member Educator Matt Wooters '09 and Assistant Member Educator Danny Dempsey '11.
Niro crowned 2008 Homecoming King

For the second consecutive year, a Beta was crowned as JCU's Homecoming King. Senior Peter Niro took this year's honor, following in the footsteps of 2008 graduate Patrick Carpenter. This year's Homecoming Court featured four Betas: Doug Gault, Niro, Peter Poznako, and Matt Wooters. Congratulations Brother Niro!
JCU's Allen Elected to Board of Trustees

Dr. Scott J. Allen, Visiting Assistant Professor of Management at John Carroll University and the faculty advisor for JCU's Colony, has been elected by the delegates to the 169th General Convention to serve a three year term as a Vice President on the Board of Trustees of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
