Beta Awarded 2008 Greek Organization of the Year
Thursday, January 15, 2009

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH -- During the Inauguration Ceremonies on January 15, 2009 of the 87th President of the Student Union of John Carroll University, J. Matthew Hiznay, the colony of Beta Theta Pi was recognized as the 2008 Greek Organization of the Year in just its first year of eligibility.

Each year, the Student Union and the Student Organization Review Board recognize the top organization for the past year in each of five categories: Academic, Cultural, Programming, Service, and Greek. Founding President Christopher DiNapoli '09 accepted the prestigious honor on the colony's behalf, which includes a framed certificate and monetary award.

The following is an excerpt from the nomination received on Beta's behalf:
Beta Theta Pi has set itself apart in its first full year as an organization like few others. Its members are some of the most top-notch gentlemen, leaders, and scholars on campus, and have a strong desire to build up an organization that epitomizes not only the mission of the Fraternity, but of JCU, through learning, leadership, and service.

Aside from these things, members of Beta Theta Pi make their presence known through their involvement in all facets of campus life, including on four varsity athletic teams, campus ministry, and roughly 40 different student organizations. They engage the world by studying abroad or participating on numerous domestic and international immersion experiences. As "The Singing Fraternity," they serenade the ladies of JCU. They pledge to be men for others, and they are. The Carroll News even acknowledged Beta as an "influence" at JCU in their year-end special. And that's what Beta, and all of its members, are - special indeed, and quite deserving of the "Organization of the Year" honor.
